About the Artist
An artist for as long as she can remember, Brenda’s earliest memories of making art involve illustrating her beloved Archie comic books, an early sign of her instinct to observe, interpret, and recreate the world around her.
Drawn to realism from the beginning, Brenda works across multiple mediums, including acrylics, watercolours, pencil, and photography. Whether painting or behind the camera, she is guided by the belief that an image—especially a photograph—can speak directly to the heart. Her work seeks to capture moments of quiet clarity, emotion, and connection, often revealing beauty in the familiar and the overlooked.
Brenda studied art and photography throughout her school years and went on to build a successful Graphic Design business. While this professional path sharpened her eye for composition and detail, she eventually returned to a more personal and expressive creative rhythm. Recently retired, she embraces the freedom of photographing and painting as part of her daily life, allowing curiosity and intuition to guide her process.
Her photography has received international recognition, including publication in National Geographic magazine’s February 2017 print issue, as well as three online features in National Geographic Your Shot stories.
Brenda is an active member of the Aurora Group of Artists and the Society of York Region Artists, and she is represented by Royal Rose Gallery in Aurora.
Through her work, Brenda Snape invites viewers to slow down, look closely, and find resonance in the quiet details of everyday life.
Artist Statement
Much of Brenda’s inspiration comes from long photography walks through the York Region trails and surrounding areas, as well as from her own backyard. These environments offer endless opportunities to observe shifting light, subtle textures, and fleeting moments that later form both her photographic and painted works.
